Hopkins Architects: Four Years On

Hopkins Architects is a pioneering architectural practice, and so it’s very fitting that it was also one of the early adopters of Inevidesk. First, as an integral member of our Steering Group and then as one of our first customers.
As Inevidesk has grown over the last few years, so has our relationship with Hopkins. It started with a free trial in mid-2019 and has evolved to a point where Inevidesk now supports the Hopkins team across 23 pods and 146 vdesks, powering them to use all the software they need, from Revit to Navisworks, Adobe Photoshop, and 3DS Max.
How Hopkins works with virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) has changed too.
The practice first turned to VDI as a superior way of supporting remote working for its employees during the pandemic. But when back in the office, it was evident to the practice it was time to consolidate its IT infrastructure and bring on more pods.
When some team members decided to move back to their home country post-pandemic, they also needed that extra flexibility and realised Inevidesk’s potential to connect with teams located outside of the UK.
Director Thomas Corrie said, “We can manage all of our machines through one portal, so we know how many are in use and who's assigned to them. In addition to our team working in London, we’ve had people logging in from countries like Portugal, Italy, Spain and even the Middle East.”
The consolidation saw Hopkins move its IT infrastructure to be hosted in our secure London-based data centre alongside its Inevidesk pods, which gave it an even more robust and resilient way of working.
Thomas said, “Since we’re less reliant on the physical office, we have a better way of maintaining physical and virtual security.”
Additionally, Hopkins no longer has to worry about its server room overheating, workstations being switched off accidentally when connecting remotely, or people working from home being affected by the internet going down in the office.

The move to hosted VDI also freed up space in the office since the server room was removed and they no longer have workstations stacked up at the back of the office gathering dust.
Four years on and 29 pods later (the earliest pods have been replaced now), we couldn’t be happier to have Hopkins Architects as a long-term customer – providing high-performance, flexible and secure VDI to the team.
And to sum up his experience, Thomas said, “There is a lot of interest in public cloud VDI but we are happier with the Inevidesk model where everything is simpler and predictable”.
